VFM Bees honey is harvested seasonally from apiaries situated on my own property, as well as from the hives of supportive neighbors and community members on and around "The Mountain," near Valley Forge National Park. The honey is pure and unprocessed. With only minimal filtration to remove larger particles, each jar holds raw, natural honey in its purest form - straight from the hive. Enjoy an authentic taste of the season and the surrounding landscape while also contributing to VFM Bees' mission of bettering emotional and psychological health for those who need it most.
Causes supported by VFM Bees
2025 - Cultivating awareness and conversation around mental health with students and young adults
In 2025, all net proceeds from honey sales ($672) were donated to Active Minds, a nonprofit dedicated to improving mental health outcomes for young adults. Honey production was lower than usual this season due to challenging weather conditions in the spring and early summer, which impacted forage and hive productivity. Despite this, every dollar raised from honey sales was directed toward supporting Active Minds’ mission to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and foster open conversations around mental health on college campuses and in communities nationwide. Through peer-driven programs, educational initiatives, and advocacy efforts, Active Minds empowers students to prioritize mental well-being, support one another, and seek help when needed. Learn more about Active Minds here.
2024 - Supporting Mental Health through contributions to disaster relief
Thank you for supporting VFM Bees through your honey purchases and donations. In 2024, 100% of net proceeds (amounting to $1800) were donated to the Appalachian State Disaster Relief Fund, helping students, faculty, and staff affected by Hurricane Helena. This donation aligns with VFM Bees' mission to promote mental health, especially through the work of Dr. Maggie Sugg, an associate professor at Appalachian State. Dr. Sugg's research on the mental health impacts of climate disasters, particularly on youth, closely connects with VFM Bees' focus on addressing mental health challenges during vulnerable times. You can learn more about her important work here.
2019 to 2021 - Contributing to youth mental health through resources, awareness and action
In 2019 through 2021, 100% of net proceeds from honey sales (amounting to $1500) were donated to the JED foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting emotional well-being of teens and young adults. They provide essential mental health resources, promote resilience, and work to strengthen school and community support systems. Through education, advocacy, and direct outreach, they empower young people to navigate life’s challenges, seek help when needed, and build a foundation for long-term emotional wellness. Learn more about the work of the JED Foundation here.
Note: Net proceeds reflect honey sales after the cost of jars and labels. All remaining proceeds are donated. No other beekeeping-related expenses or labor costs are deducted.
